Ubisoft schaltet Server für ältere Spiele ab
Vor einigen Wochen hat Ubisoft bekannt gegeben, dass zum Zwecke der Kosteneinsparung diverse ältere Spiele ihren Online-Zugang verlieren. Die Kosten werden zum überwiegenden Großteil aus Aufwand für Wartung der Serverhard- und software bestehen. Wie hoch genau diese Kosten ausfallen, können wir leider nicht beziffern.
Die dazugehörige Liste von Spielen und der entsprechenden Plattform wurde von Ubistoft auf deren Website bekannt gegeben. Die Liste setzt sich aus folgenden Spielen und Plattformen zusammen.

Wie sich erkennen lässt, können die erwähnten Spiele nicht mehr im Multiplayer gespielt werden. Bei einigen Spielen wird auch der Zugriff auf (bezahlte) DLCs verhindert. Als Beispiel wäre hier Assassins Creed 3 zu nennen, welches 2012 veröffentlicht wurde und bald ohne DLCs auskommen muss. Ärgerlich vor allem für die Gamer, welche den vollen Preis bezahlt haben. Die Abschaltung tritt am 01 September 2022 in Kraft. Immerhin trifft das nicht auf die Remastered Versionen zu, hier wird der Zugriff auf die gekauften DLCs nicht unterbunden.
Diese Art der Kosteneinsparung gibt aus wirtschaftlicher Sicht durchaus Sinn, da sich kein Geld mehr mit diesen Spielen verdienen lässt und nur Kosten entstehen. Auf der anderen Seite werden so sicherlich einige hartgesottene Spieler verärgert, die nach wie vor an diesen Spielen festhalten. Ob es von Seiten der Community irgendeine Art Backlash geben wird, muss sich erst noch zeigen. Das ist definitiv eines der Probleme, die uns noch häufiger begegnen werden.
